Dental Implants / Teeth Replacement

Dental Implants

Dental implants have changed people's lives. They are designed to provide a foundation for replacement of missing teeth. The person who has lost teeth will have options with the help of dental implants to function normally, smile with confidence, enjoy food again and fell and look younger.

Dental implants are small titanium alloy posts that are surgically placed into the jawbone into the space of missing or lost teeth; acting as anchors and substituting for the missing roots of the teeth. Bone grows into the irregularities of the dental implants, creating a strong foundation for the artificial teeth. Small parts of the dental implants that protrude through the gums are then attached to the abutment and crown. Dental implants also help preserve facial structure, preventing bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing. Using the most recent advanced technologies in dental implants and oral implantology, we were able to develop our own Dental Implants Method. Advances in dental implant technology have made it possible, in selected situations, to extract the tooth or teeth, insert the implant(s), and even place the temporary crown(s) during the same visit. This procedure, called :immediate loading" can only be done in certain dental health conditions and we will determine if you are a good candidate for such a procedure.

Bone Augmentation for Dental Implants Placement

Bone Grafting

Alveolar bone resorption progresses rapidly after the loss of a natural tooth or teeth. 25% to 50% of alveolar bone loss (bone that supports the natural teeth) documented, creates an unfavorable bone condition for dental implants placement. Because of the improved understanding of biomechanics and available bone reconstruction methods (bone grafting), bone augmentation before dental implants placement has become a necessary procedure.

What is Bone Grafting

  • The replacement of bone in the portion of the jaw that anchors the teeth
  • A procedure often performed to replace lost bone due to tooth loss, trauma or ill-fitting dentures
  • Commonly done to rebuild the bone structure beneath the gums to place the dental implants

Dental Bone Grafting Options

  • Bone from patient's own body (autograft)
  • Recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein (rhBMP-2): synthetically produced, naturally occurring protein that stimulates a person's cells to produce bone
  • Bone graft fillers
    • - From other people (allograft)
    • - Animals (xenograft)
    • - Synthetic (man-made)

At Icon Dental we mainly use Autograft, rhBMP-2, Alveolar Distraction Osteogenesis Technique and Allograft.

Autograft

Surgically harvested from another site in the patient's own body (symphysis, ramus, tuberosity of the jaw) and transplanted into the site of the defect.

Recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein (rhBMP-2):

  • - Eliminates the need for a second surgery to harvest bone from the patient's body
  • - Potentially decreases surgical time and reduces reliance on anesthesia
  • - No recovery time for second-site bone harvest
  • - Proven, predictable bone growth for dental implants placement
Alveolar Distraction Osteogenesis

it was not until the late 1980's that Professor Dr. G. Elizarov was able to make the breakthrough, taking this idea into the mainstream. R. Elizarov must certainly be considered the father of distraction osteogenesis technology. The technique utilizes a special devise to stretch (expand) the patient's own bone.
